Another Attempt at the Boardwalk Art Show

Doug and I recently submitted our third Boardwalk Art Show application. Below you will find the images we submitted for our application. The funny thing about this application (and many others like it) is the fact that the artist gets only 300 characters, yes characters not words, to describe the materials and techniques used in creating the art. Regardless of the limitations to explain one’s work, we thought our description was concise and accurate not only with materials and technique but also in describing the intent of our work:

Copper sheet metal is cut into various shapes, colored with patina via oxidation, and displayed in hand crafted wood frames. This work explores how humans visually and conceptually reconcile the dichotomy of discrete and continuous data as it relates to nature and time.

Art in the Garden: A Seasons End

The chill of autumn has made its way to Virginia bringing an end to our art show season. But before it is all said and done we have one last show in the Ghent area of Norfolk. Stockley Gardens Fall Art Festival hinges on some of the finest artists in the area and is one of the largest art shows in the Hampton Roads area. If you haven’t had a chance to check us out this year please stop on by — we love to see familiar faces and to make new friends. With a little luck the rain will stay away and we can all greet the crisp fall weather together surrounded by good music and beautiful artwork. We hope to see you there!

Deuces Wild: Finding our Place with King Neptune

The 36th annual Neptune Festival was this past weekend and though the weather took us for a roller coaster ride it turned out to have a bright sunny ending. On Friday morning as the rain fell and the wind gusted we were visited by the official Neptune art judge who shortly after looking over our work selected “52 Weeks” to be eligible to win best in show. It was an honor just to be selected but after a days wait with the cold and clouds settling in on us again we noticed a man with a crown approaching our booth. It was King Neptune himself and he brought good news as well as a swell of photographers and, best of all, a second place ribbon. This was only our second juried show and it was the second time we took second place.

Sunday brought even more good news as sales picked up and the sun finally found its way from behind the storm that had menaced us the two previous days. Thank you to all of our friends and family who came out to support us and to all of our new acquaintances who are now proud owners of copper artwork. Keep checking in with us for updates about our up coming show at Stockley Gardens in the Ghent area of Norfolk.

Neptune Festival ‘09

If you have missed our last few shows don’t worry, this weekend brings with it The Neptune Festival at the Virginia Beach Boardwalk. The event lasts three days [25th, 26th and 27th] and will have some of the best local artists on the scene as well as artists from all over the country. We will be set up at 23rd street so if you want to get out and enjoy one last weekend of summer fun we urge you to stop on by.

Towne Place Greenbrier Art Show

Art show this weekend! It’s a one day show on Saturday (9.12.09) from 10am to 6pm. Forecast looks to be in our favor with little chance of rain. Come and check out local artists.

Slow Art Walkin’ to a Show on the Road

After a sluggish showing at the First Friday Art Walk at Town Center we will be taking a bit of a break from shows until next month. In early August, for the first time, we’ll pack our pieces up and get ready for a long haul. We will be headed to Blacksburg, Virginia to take part in the Steppin’ Out Festival which will be held August 7th and 8th.

This is a great opportunity for us to learn what it is to be a traveling artist. It also is a chance to get back to the Virginia Tech and Radford area to see some friends and family who are often absent from our art shows. If you have been looking for a mountain get away mixed with a small town art and music festival then here is your chance.

Friday Night Art at Town Center

The first Friday of July is just around the corner and that means that Town Center will be putting on its monthly art walk. The show times are from 5pm to 8pm.There will be local artist and crafters set up along the side walks through out the Town Center area. Come out and enjoy some fresh air before you begin your evening by checking out the beautiful works of art that will be on display. It is the perfect time to enjoy a relaxing but stimulating evening before the 4th of July festivities take full swing.

The Elements Center: Where Good People Happen

Two weekends ago we spent Saturday at the Elements Center off of Providence Rd. in Virginia Beach. They were putting on a craft bazaar for local artists and we were lucky enough to have been invited. It was a small show but most of the people that came seemed very intrigued by our work and spent a while chatting with us and debating on what would make the best gift for multiple members of their families or themselves, it’s okay to indulge every once in a while! The woman that was set up in the booth next to us had some amazing home made jellies and jams.

We were also fortunate enough to speak with the owner of the studio about putting some of our pieces in their consignment shop. This is something that we will be pursuing soon. If you are ever in need of a good massage, which we were given while at the show and it was awesome, or if you just want to practice your yoga please check out the Elements Center.

Artisan's Spring Bazaar

This show will be highlighting Eco-friendly and fair trade art and crafts, as well as, showcasing local artisans. As mentioned in the flyer, this would be a great place to find some original gifts for upcoming spring weddings. Stop by if you’re free on Saturday. Hope to see you there.
