Art in the Garden: A Seasons End

Stockley Gardens Art Festival

The chill of autumn has made its way to Virginia bringing an end to our art show season. But before it is all said and done we have one last show in the Ghent area of Norfolk. Stockley Gardens Fall Art Festival hinges on some of the finest artists in the area and is one of the largest art shows in the Hampton Roads area. If you haven’t had a chance to check us out this year please stop on by — we love to see familiar faces and to make new friends. With a little luck the rain will stay away and we can all greet the crisp fall weather together surrounded by good music and beautiful artwork. We hope to see you there!

Chesapeake Art Show: Winning 2nd place, getting on My City Talk News, good sales and hot weather

The end of April finally brought a new and very cool opportunity for our team. Instead of just participating in another small craft show we had the chance to take part in our first art show. The Chesapeake Art Show took place on the grounds of the Portlock Art Museum in SoNo (South Norfolk) and though it was a scorching hot weekend there were plenty of art lovers out and about to enjoy the sun, activities and the great artwork.

During the judging process early on Saturday morning we were unsure of how we were being perceived by the judge which kept us on our toes. Later on that afternoon the judge stopped back by to give us a second look, at that point we thought we might have a shot at placing in the jury portion of the show. It wasn’t but a few hours later that they called our name at the jury ceremony, and we were the proud recipients of the second place ribbon! Not too shabby for our first appearance at an art show.

2nd PlaceSaturday Morning Set Up

We made a lot of friends over the weekend and had a chance to see some awesome photography, woodwork and we even met a fellow by the name of Tommy who was by far one of the liveliest gentlemen at the show. On top of being a photographer he also makes a brilliantly smoked salsa that we all ended up buying a jar of. We also had the chance to make our first news appearance for the website mycitytalk.com. It was both awkward and funny at the same time, nothing like promoting yourself while Electric Avenue is blasting on the loud speaker behind you.

It was a wonderful learning experience of a weekend and we look forward to taking place in a few other shows this summer and fall when we get the opportunity.

Summer Show Down of the Arts

If you have been following along over the past couple of months you have probably seen some of the new pieces that we had been putting together for summer art shows. These new pieces are centered around nature in general and more specifically we have focused on marine life that survives in and around the Chesapeake Bay. Unfortunately a couple weeks back we received the news that we were not selected into the Boardwalk Art Show this year but that doesn’t mean it is the end of the road for us. We have a few other art shows already in the works that we will be attending or applying to which will finally put our stuff on display this spring and summer. The first of these shows to take note of will take place at the end of this month. We have been accepted into and will be participating in the Chesapeake Art Show.

“Hosted on the grounds of Portlock Galleries in the South Norfolk section of Chesapeake, The Chesapeake Arts Show features the work of artists and artisans working in media that include painting, photography, pottery, wood, metal, and more. Throughout the weekend, there will be live music, festival foods, entertainment and kids’ activities, as well as demonstrations from local artisans.”

The show takes place the 25th and 26th and if you have the time to make it out there will be plenty of great music and art to fill your day. We would love to see you and if you know of someone who you’ve been meaning to bring by our studio to check out the art work this is a great opportunity to do it outdoors.
